GIS Specialist – Bonita Springs Utilities

Under general supervision of the Director of Engineering, assists with the design, development, implementation and
maintenance of the Utility’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The incumbent oversees various types of files, updates
and transfers geographical data and oversees the preparation of maps, programs, sketches and related graphical media.
Position is responsible for assuring that the Utility’s GIS system is accurate, reliable and comprehensive.
 Collects, post processes, and uploads GPS data into Utility’s GIS system;
 Converts various forms of data in updating and maintaining geographical data;
 Performs extensive research to obtain the most reliable and current data available for updating GIS databases;
 Creates custom maps and exhibits for BSU departments;
 Assists with end user training on the entire suite of ArcGIS products;
 Assists in preparation of project plans and specifications for various projects;
 Prepares drawings, sketches, graphs and charts;
 Analyzes and documents problems, recommends solutions, initiates corrective action and follow up problem
 Assists with computer related projects; provides reports on project status;
 Stays current with new and changing technology;
 Assists all personnel with accepting and using technology to aid with their daily tasks;
 Perform other duties as assigned.
 Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS Software (i.e. ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS server, etc.);
 Ability to apply principals and practices of technology and drafting;
 Knowledge of computer operating systems;
 Knowledge of manual and computerized drafting;
 Knowledge of GIS systems;
 Knowledge of topologies, geometric networks, COGO tools, spatial adjustments, georeferencing, map books,
distributing databases, versioned geodatabase environment, ArcGIS Extentions;
 Knowledge of GPS systems including post-processing software;
 Knowledge of CUES, Inc CCTV software;
 Knowledge of algebra and geometry;
 Ability to operate and maintain devices such as GPS units, GPS cameras, tablet PCs, plotters, printers &
 Ability to read record drawings, maps, legal descriptions, and plats;
 Ability to analyze technical material and documentation;
 Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills;
 Ability to organize and prioritize work;
 Ability to meet deadlines;
 Knowledge of company policies and procedures.

The Geospatial Analyst III will provide standard work day support in Geospatial Production for ICE’s Intel unit.
The Geospatial Analyst III will be responsible for manning the Geospatial Information System Desk (GIS Desk) within ICE’s classified environment.  Additionally, the Geospatial Analyst III may be called to work on the top secret side in support of particular events and thus must hold an Active Top Secret clearance.  The Geospatial Analyst will respond for creating new geospatial products, which will be generated for dissemination with other tracked information regarding a particular ICE event and the Department’s response posture.
The successful candidate for the Geospatial Analyst III position requires an in-depth knowledge of industry leading Geospatial tools including the ESRI tool set.  The Geospatial Analyst III, by virtue of the position, may be required to provide surge support during critical incidents affecting the nation’s security of safety.
Specific duties and skills associated with the Geospatial Analyst III include:
 Rapid development of Geospatial Products using ESRI tool set
 Ability to interpret and explain geospatial products to ICE leadership
 Understanding of visualization tools such as ESRI-based web interfaces and Google Earth
 Ability to work autonomously
 Understanding of Geodatabases and data in general, ability to incorporate data sets on-the-fly in a geospatial product
 Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
 Strong commitment to the Homeland Security mission.

Natural Resources Specialist I – Broward County

The Broward County Energy and Sustainability Program will be hiring a Natural Resources Specialist I for a 10-12 month period to complete the requirements of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

Work involves administrative support of the County’s internal, community-wide and regional climate initiatives. This may include supporting logistics, record keeping, energy conservation outreach and research on green practices. Work also requires the ability to be responsible for project assignments, to use sound judgment and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and internet protocols required. Experience with GIS ArcView software and familiarity with climate change issues and energy conservation is preferred.

  • GIS Technician

General Description:

  • The GIS Technician will be responsible for GIS database development, Spatial Analysis, and Map Production in an ESRI ArcGIS environment to ensure a successful Enterprise GIS implementation.

Position Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Compiles geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs.
  • Gathers, analyzes and integrates spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
  • Designs and update databases, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
  • Enters new map data by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography and map scales.
  • A strong understanding and mastery of land survey principles and legal descriptions including metes and bounds and Public Land Survey System (PLSS).
  • Designs and creates special map and digital products as assigned using predefined procedures, knowledge of GIS data and required GIS skills.

Education & Skills Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in geography, information systems, information technology, land planning, or urban & regional planning.
  • Required experience of at least 2 years with ESRI ArcGIS
  • Experience and/or academic work in one or more fields applicable to GIS applications including land resources, land planning, land records, environmental resource management.
  • High proficiency in communication, written, oral and cartographic skills – the ability to convey GIS spatial information to non-GIS users.

GIS Technician – Davie, Florida

Job Description: The Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie, Florida is seeking an enthusiastic individual to work as part of a multi-agency team engaged in research in support of Everglades ecology and restoration.

Duties Include: This individual will be the primary GIS/Remote Sensing specialist in a research group that includes scientists and managers from the University of Florida, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and the National Park Service. The individual will assist in ongoing projects that monitor and assess responses of the Greater Everglades system to ecological restoration, evaluate the distribution and effects of invasive species in the region, and forecast the possible effects of climate change on endangered species. Specific duties will include (1) compiling geospatial data from collaborators, online warehouses and in-house field data; (2) extensive QA/QC of data; (3) geospatial analysis using ArcGIS, R and other open source tools and software; (4) preparing metadata and developing/documenting protocols used in data analysis; (5) assisting colleagues in the preparation of proposals, project reports, and peer-reviewed publications and (6) maintaining ongoing communication with collaborators across a diverse range of government agencies and research institutions.

This is a full time position with an initial one-year appointment. Ongoing employment will be dependent on performance and funding.

Qualifications: Applicant should have at least a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in geography, ecology, environmental science, or related field and at least one year of GIS experience. Applicant must be able to work well independently and with others in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience using GIS to support ecological research, be proficient in ArcGIS and have experience in R, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Technical writing, problem solving and organizational skills are essential. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and have all paperwork completed prior to accepting the position.

Salary: $15.00-20.00/hour depending on experience
