Innovative sensors have developed and improved over recent decades. Today, technological advances, lower costs, and readily available public data afford the opportunity to test state-of-the-art techniques with advanced sensor data for improved mapping products. This research utilizes fused LIDAR data and optical imagery in a geographic object based image analysis (GEOBIA) approach with a semi-automated, machine learning classification technique to identify wetland plant communities for land-cover mapping in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA.
